Note: To ensure that all our readers notice the following, it will stay up for 2 weeks.

Arriving this week!

We used to carry this product from Vinotheque. But when the owners passed away (husband and wife) the business fell and was taken over by Mosti Mondiale. Mosti Mondiale is a processor of wine kits and juices, with a focus on pure juices.

In the meantime, we had to go to Vineco for 23L pure juice products. But after a few years, they stopped producing them. So we are back with Mosti Mondiale. During that time, technology has been at work. Everything in the industry has gotten better.

For starters, we will be carrying 17 varieties and 15 varieties on special orders – depending on sales there could be a shift between the two categories.

We carry the following as of this week.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Merlot
Pinot Noir
Shiraz
Chianti
Barolo
Valpolicella
Castel de Papa (VCR type)
Shiraz Merlot
Pinomer
Sauvignon Blanc
Gewurztraminer
Chardonnay
Liebfraumilch
Pinot Grigio
Soave
Chardasia

Two of the above need explanation. Pinomer is a blend of Merlot and Pinot Noir, while Chardasia is another name for Italian grown Chardonnay grapes must.

We will also offer the following on a pre-order basis as for the most part, the names used are not very well known or of special interest to fewer customers. Of course, should one of these become popular it will be stocked regularly.

Bourg Royal
Montipulciano
Caberlot
Lambrusco
Sangiovese
Nero d’Avalo
Amarone
Malbec
Blanc des Chateau
Trebliano
Reisling
Grigionay

Wine kits and technology
Not enough can be said about the impact of technology on the quality of wine kits we have today as – compared to 20 years ago. Back then, all kits we had came from California. Now we bring in juices from the northern and southern hemispheres from 10 different countries. In effect, 2 crops each year. But since then research, methods and avilability of types have jumped off the scale. Prices have gone up over time (about 2%) per year but that is a pittance compared to the present quality.

Mosti Mondiale has its own lab, for their own use but they also do contract work for commercialized wineries.

As well they do wine aging to ensure they can recommend a proper period of time before drinking. In the name of lowering the drinking of ‘Chateau Yesterday 2014’.
